Does anyone know how I could do this? Basically I have a client who wants to stream a part of their store to the general public so that people could see what happens during the day. All that I know at the moment is that it will be a flash window located on their front page. I just don't know how I should go about streaming to the web. Would I need a dedicated IP? Hardware/Server? What kind of bandwidth would this require?
I posted the same question here some time back but got no response(N) So, i done some digging for myself.
When i done mine it was for a DofE (A Charity), which meant i was after a rather free option, i found YawCam (http://www.yawcam.com/). Downloading their software, i was then able to stream live onto a html page, which they set up for free! I then embeded it into my own website.

You'll need a hack (http://homepage.mac.com/geerlingguy/mac_support/mac_help/pages/15-burn_idvd_other.html) to get iDVD to "see" external burners.
I am very, very happy with my LaCie d2 16X dual-layer external burner, which comes with Toast 6 Titanium, all for $199 at the Apple Store. Same front size as all d2 drives, about 50% deeper than the "normal" d2 drives (fits nicely on the LaCie desktop rack with my 120GB and 250GB LaCie d2 externals).

Have been running Folding (GUI) on three Macs for the past few months:
PB G4 1.33GHz, 1GB RAM, 24x7
iMac G4 800, 1GB RAM, 24x7
iMac G4 700, 576MB RAM, 24x7
Combined, those have been averaging about 2,600 points per month for me.
Just added today (console):
a 3.6GHz Xeon, 1GB RAM, 800MHz system bus
a Dual 2.4GHz Xeon, 2GB RAM, 400Mhz system bus
How much of a jump in production should I see?

I bought the be.ez LA robe sleeve (http://www.amazon.com/100572-Sleeve-13-3-Inch-Macbooks-Wasabi/dp/B0015R819O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1304576401&sr=8-1) as well as the Vyper XS3. I kept the be.ez sleeve because of the price point vs. the extra protection provided by the Vyper XS3, although I really liked it too. The be.ez sleeve is sturdy enough, surprisingly, but wouldn't protect as well as the Vyper XS3 in a major drop.

Apparently, a coalition of state retailers weighed in and convinced the legislature that not having to collect taxes would give Amazon an unfair sales advantage.
Walmart and others are the biggies behind this. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but it's all about their profits.

Are you saying that you are not impressed by this feature just because it doesn't fit YOUR need, even though you emphasize that it works very well if you have a small screen (most Mac users have the laptop)?
Runs smooth as butter on my 11" 2GB machine.
I am saying that this feature isn't very important to me. I know that for people with relative small displays or other needs, that full screen is a good idea (as I said before).
I am still giving Full screen mode a chance. I have been using mail and Safari in full screen the whole day and I am trying to find reasons to use it, but I think it doesn't fit in my workflows.

And could this story be the inspiration for a whole series of chicken slasher films?
Ever seen Thankskilling? It's pretty terrible, but it's on netflix streaming.

How can a chip be the size of a PCI card?
The biggest chip I ever saw was an IBM Power processor, which is about the size of a palm (less fingers).
Not the actual chip, but the entire package (GPU, board, VRAM, etc) is quite large and quite hot, possibly the size of what you are describing, which is way too big for Apple's current and future portable offerings.

I haven't used this keyboard myself, but i've heard it comes pretty close to what you're looking for: http://www.macally.com/spec/usb/input_device/icekey.html
I bought one of these for my G5, love it. Looks cool and has very nice action, I seem to fly on this board! 2 USB ports (one at each end). Pretty cheap too.... $39 at Newegg I think. It gets my vote. :D

No. It's not related to any dislike between Apple and Oracle. I believe it was timed purposely to keep Java applications out of the new Mac App Store.
Don't forget the IcedTea project. This is related to OpenJDK, and already has a working Mac implementation.
My take on the announcement is that Apple is ensuring that OSX will be more open to installation of such software and not requiring Apple's developers to reimplement versions of Java as they come out. I suspect Apple wants to use their development staff for Apple-specific software.
I don't think the Mac App Store has any relevance to the discussion.
Oracle's announcements at the JavaOne 2010 meeting seems to promise bringing Java as a platform back from the dead -- something Sun was having problems doing. The Oracle promise of rapid progress of the Java platform would make it difficult/expensive for Apple to keep up and still be a viable platform for Java development.
I think Jobs' announcement is a positive sign.

So I've been thinking
Xcode now requires Snow Leopard - when Lion comes out is it likely I'll need Lion to continue developing or should I be good with Snow Leopard? I only ask as my current development machine is a Core Duo (read - not good enough for Lion) and if I'm going to need to update I'll need to plan ahead.
Whilst I realise nobody 'knows' at the minute, does anyone know when XCode required Snow Leopard from? Was it from Snow Leopard's release, or simply when Xcode 4 came into existance?

I'm pretty good programming in PHP and Javascript, but now I need something that allows me to create simple desktop apps. Mostly it will be for automation scripts, too much for Apple Script, but not complex enough to jump into Cocoa and Objective-C. Examples: Manipulating text files (sorting, dupe line checking, adding/cutting parts, splitting/combining files etc.), uploading a file to several different FTP servers, sending POST requests to a server.
I often hear Pearl and Python mentioned and I believe they are pre-installed on the Mac, but I don't know much about them. What's the main difference? Which one (or something else?) would be best suited for these tasks? Which one is easier to learn?
Bonus: What's a good site to learn for someone who has general programming knowledge, but is a total noob with those languages?

This is how I did it on my iBook about a year ago. However, you must be VERY careful with this method... it could screw up your system severely if not done correctly! For that reason, I recommend not doing this method if you're uncomfortable with the possible outcomes from the mistakes and waiting until someone posts an alternative way. However, if you ARE comfortable...
Open up the Terminal.
Type in the following:
cd /
sudo rm -rf "System Folder"
Exactly like that, quotes and everything. You will be prompted for a password after entering the last line.
This deletes everything, without question, from "System Folder" which is your Mac OS 9 folder. Making a slight mistake and entering rm -rf "System" will delete your entire OS X system folder! So once again, I advise being extremely careful with this method, and finding an alternative if you are uncomfortable with it.
