You are saying that for everything apart from the iPhone, having more than one type of model is necessary. But, for the iPhone, it'll be doomed to failure?
Why?
I'm not saying its a necessity I'm just saying Apple's curve of sales is going up while Nokia and other manufactures are losing sales with the model suggested in the article.
I'm not saying Apple couldn't pull it of, maybe they can I'm just saying I'm skeptical of this report. That's all :)

Once again, this is the start of the tablet era. Don't think of it in terms of the iPad we have in 2011. Think of it in terms of the iPad of 2020. That will blow the doors off anything we know today. It will sync to the cloud, will have voice input, far better keyboard input, connect to every other device you own, and no, I don't know how but I will enjoy watching it unfold.
By 2020 the vast majority of consumers will think of a tablet as their computer and only specialists will get anything like what we call a computer today.
By the way, people own lots of computers today. They just call them the phone, the DVR, the ...

With regards to aforementioned website containing a video clip of a Japanese woman demonstrating a stunningly simple technique wherein in three rapid moves she folds a t-shirt to a certain predefined size and shape;
AND WHEREAS she gives a narration of the process in the Japanese language;
AND WHEREAS MikeTheC is not literate in Japanese and therefore cannot make any direct use or sense of the spoken Japanese instructions;
AND WHEREAS this thread, having nothing really to do with the ancient Japanese art of folding t-shirts, but yet heavily discussing Japanese commercials and Apple's renewed presence in them;

It's probably a QC issue. Some are thicker while others are not.
If your an Asian worker in china and work over 60 hours per week, you're probably going to get tired of putting 1,000 same parts over and over again per hour, thus causing some minor, and very minor tweaks to the device, and Apple's QC is excellent by the way.

Steve does look skinny, yes, but more skinny when compared to his most recent keynotes? Probably not, but quite hard to tell really.
I was watching the 2006 WWDC keynote the other day and thats scary - steve looks completely different and a lot younger. He has lost a lot of weight over the last few years.

For the love of God, will they please fix the bug that causes any wall, photo, or comment posts to slow to a crawl if you haven't reinstalled the Facebook app in some time.
Any one else notice this?
Example: I restore my iPhone. Facebook runs like a sprint horse fresh out of the gate. Posting status updates, wall comments, photo comments, friend requests, etc.. are all snappy. Then after about a week things start taking longer to post. The spinner lasts much longer on the screen. Then by week 4, trying to post a simple status update cripples the app to the point that you have to hit the Home button on the iPhone. Meanwhile, even though your spinner is processing, that status update has already updated on their servers for others to see.
Excellent description of the problem! I also submitted this as a bug in the app store. I guess time will show if they've fixed it in the latest version.

I agree with the crop. I'm not sure why I didn't think of it or do it before. I remember feeling the same way but then ignoring myself. :)
This is a "quick and dirty" crop using the crop tools in flickr. I would like more room on the right for the table. This is cropped to the edge of the empty chair, so to do a bit more room I'll have to erase the part of the chair that shows. I may try that when I have more time.

That's better but give it a try even tighter. Bring the right edge up past the tray. That might make the toys jump out a little more. Same thing if you bring the bottom edge up closer to his elbow. You may have some room to bring the top and right in a little tighter to match the bottom and left crop.
I'm not sure if this will make a better photo but from what I see I think it is worth a try. (Gotta love the digital age!)
I found the original crop interesting at first glance but the more I looked at it the more I lost interest. It may have been the clutter of the bars and expanse of the table and chair to the right - the main focus seemed to get lost. I dunno. ;)

that's not the same thing at all. If your mom calls you on the phone and says "i can't run this new app because it says i need to update" you can walk her through it from 2000 miles away. If she's got an ipad and the next version of Angry Birds requires a new iOS version, and she doesn't have a computer, you can't talk her through that. unless you think this would work:
"OK, Mom, what you need to do is go to Best Buy, and go to one of the macs, and then open iTunes, and sync your ipad with it, and then do software update on it, and then erase your account info from the best buy mac, and that's all you have to do!"

The line was pretty mad, but it seemed to move rather quickly once the doors were opened at 6pm. My hat is off to those who in the queue who had a word with the queue cutters as well as the Apple staff. (Dear queue cutters get with the program, or go back to your friends at Microsoft.)
I was amazed at the number of people in the queue that didn't buy Leopard. LOL... was the lame free t-shirt really worth your time in the queue?
I was a bit embarrassed by all the hot women who asked us what we were queuing up for. Oops, was I really standing in a queue for 2 hours on a Friday night. Hell ya! I saw the ladies later with a big box in my pocket.

Aren't there a half dozen or so other websites that sell/do the exact same thing as this kid? As well as likely hundreds of eBay sellers?
So, what I missing here? Why all the scrutiny for this kid?
Plus, his website clearly says they're non-OEM parts. So I really don't get all the negative hooplah here.

Our current POTUS was given a bad hand from our previous POTUS, who pretty much trashed the place on his way out. the previous POTUS enacted TARP to bail out the banks with no oversight on the funding, left us with unpaid wars, a horrid economy, and a disaster of a budget for the 2009-2010 fiscal year. And people blame our current POTUS for that, when the bulk of that wasn't his doing. And when he tries to step out and do something better, you hear "No", "where's your birth certificate", "you're a Muslim", and catches more flak when those that do this complaining ask him where all of his promises are, and call for his impeachment.
Our current POTUS needs to grow a pair and do a LOT more, no doubt; but he's done well so far, given the circumstances and obstacles dealt him.

I bought a Verizon iPad because I have an AT&T iPhone. I figured that if one doesn't work, the other will. I saw no need to get two devices on the same network.

Could be they made many more Verizon models. Could also be that ATT models are being bought for resale overseas. Nothing wrong with that, which is what the OP was implying, I think. Could also be a combination of the two, of course.
Thankfully, there's no moral, ethical, or legal responsibility saying what you should do with your legally obtained, publicly available tech item. You can use it, blend it, sell it to your neighbor, use it as a frisbee, or even carry it on a plane and once you land, you can do all those same things EVEN if your plane landed near a bunch of Asians instead of near a bunch of white people. Crazy, huh?

the 'what's new' page says "Work with RAW images from more than 50 camera models, including the Fuji S2, Fuji S3 Pro, and Sony A100." but i don't know which ones exactly .. i know the Fujis are new because i have the S9000/9500 which is still not supported and it didn't support any Fujis before

Deffinately not something we will see in OSX... you notice the icons and windows are flying in from off the screen of that desktop? I dont know what kind of monitors you guys have but my monitor cant do that :-P
