Thanks for your reply. Everybody else is just teasing and making fun instead of answering a simple question.
(1) Are these steps taken in a sequence?
(2) Does USCIS update the status of our file so that we know where we are i.e whether our file is stuck FBI Name check or FBI Fingerprint Check, etc..

The main problem is that no one really knows for sure whether these steps are taken in sequence. There is little to no transparency. There are procedures, but we can not guarantee that they are followed.
To answer your second part. No, I don't believe there are any standard updates that indicate this, but I could be wrong. I think that there is an update if you clear it, but not if you are stuck in it. Make sense? I appreciate your input, but IV members have been talking about numbers and numbers and numbers for last 2 years in a row.
What will the numbers reveal? I had been a regular blogger at IV, but I stopped coming up here because.
1. All talk and no Walk
2. New members come aboard, are rude and offer no pragmatic approach.
3. All these bloggers give ideas and critique each other.
4. What happened to the March1 09st rally in DC?
Why has IV not taken a pragmatic approach, don't take me wrong I respect what you have done and other approaches in the past. But IV is using same approach for a new problem, the end result-----Failure

I understand all this, but I as a visiting members and the people coming on here, want to see a true and real reason to be a part of IV and not just a website where immigrants come and breathe out their frusturations July Fiasco turned to be advantageous to a few members, but was a mistake for members like me and other members who could not file at that time.
Please prove me wrong and IV to be something more than a website, please initiate something big and real, and not just comments. I an aware of the achievements in the past, but it was past 3 years ago. For last three years immigrant's feelings have been played around too many times. Same old talks will not bring upon a change, SOMETHING BIG NEEDS TO BE DONE NOW BEFORE THE CIR BILL takes place. So people are more aware.
Show us IV core is more than words! Conduct something bigger that will attract new members and donors to this organization.
I as a professional can tell you all now--- passive movement, sending letters, long term planning with no actions will not help

We have already given you a call on the number in your profile to clear any questions you may have, hear your ideas and have you work with us to fix the immigration problem.
Please also do not forget that past successes of IV like July bulletin and 2 year EAD was because of the hard work of our members. We need to give ourselves due credit for it. When our own community does not believe in their abilities, it is disappointing. We can do much more if we understand how politics works in this country and stay united.

We have requests from editors asking for op-eds. Some of our members see hope in the current bills and when we told them the reality and the probability of those bills at this point of time, they get disappointed. We can also start multiple action items to vote on sites or send junk emails, but it will not do anything to help us and this is not want we want to keep doing. Each members time and effort is important and used where it will matter the most.

In the recent time, we did ask people to poll on the thread if they can come for a DC rally in March09. The participation was within a couple hundred I guess. We seriously want to do a big event this year in Sept Timeframe when we expect some movement of our bill. But one cannot just do at the last minute. Planning needs to happen much before the event. One or two or even 10 people cannot plan such a big event. We will need many hands. We telephoned each state chapter leader individually to talk about it. We posted their action item items and emailed them a few times. If you are not hearing from them, you may want to call them up. If they are not active, you can also take that role . We really need teams of members from each chapter ready before Sept. If a chapter wants to do a local event before that they can do it and we will support it.
Now coming to your question about core team. Core team is nothing but people like you. People have high and low times of availability like everyone else. In this bad economy there is work pressure too and everyone tries to squeeze time whenever they get. No forum postings does not mean some of them are not working. There is division of roles and having everyone come to forum and post is a waste and duplication of effort. Not everyone can have patience and availability at all times and some choose to stay away for a while or are burnt out after a long and thankless hardwork. There is no closed door. If you want to lead and be a core member to lead from the front or leader for a specific agenda, you are welcome. This is how IV can be run and managed on a long term basis even after you and I have greencards. If anyone wishes to volunteer or talk to us, let us know. IV phone and email is listed on the website and we will talk to anyone with concerns or questions. To give an example what each of us can do-- Today an action item is posted by such group of volunteer members who will work with IV and contact USCIS to fix common service errors like wrongful denials. because the backlog for EB3 is currently staring at close to 10 years and an EB2 requirement is around 5 years of progressive experience, which might enable many of them who would have progressed in their careers due to a 10 year wait for green card.
Why not EB2 to EB1 is because, EB1 is for exceptionally skilled people(athletes, doctors, multi-national managers(via L1A) etc). For EB2 candidates to be pushed to EB1, they need to exceptionally skilled which cannot be gained via experience but by acquiring skills which will place them in those categories.
If they can acquire those skills, then they automatically qualify for EB1 or EB1-NIW and can apply anytime by themselves. Note, EB1 does not need a labor approval too.
Hope that makes clear the distinction between EB1, EB2 & EB3. Employment-based GC applying lessons 101...of course this is the simplest one...:D

If you dissect EB1 data you would find that EB1C used bulk of it except for this year due to bad economy and tightening of screws. This category should be reserved for those who are managing at least 100 people or control business in several millions. I agree that EB1 should be just for the exceptional.

What Raj is saying is get your GC first and process your wife's through family based which would take a very loong time...10 years!!!
Now to my views..Your wife will be able to piggyback on your 485 application irrespective of her status H1-B or H-4 or F-1..She's your wife PERIOD...no problems there!!what i don't understand is this bangwagon "lets apply ours first and include our wife's petition later when PD becomes current"...Instead y not apply both petitions together when PD becomes current again!!Atleast you wouldn't have to worry what if my petition gets approved b4 my PD becomes current!!!And god knows how many years of H1-B extensions they would give you once you have your applied 485 receipt!!!At the end of the day it is your choice!!!

If you do not get an Infopass appt. walk in ...as it is an emergency (you amy loose your job) ! Take all docs that provide proof of that.
I had seen walkins accepted at my USCIS local office...
I'm went to the infopass website to make an appointment for interim EAD; I chose the "Washington Field Office" since I live in the DC Metro area. There are no appointments available in Aug and Sep!
This is unbelievable! What other options do I have?

Redcard,
Life is what you make it. No one force anyone to come to this country on VISA and work and be In GC line. Things happen in life. The way you are talking is as if whole world will collapse if you don’t get green card. No one would die because of that. Grow up and move on in life. This is just a minor obstacle in life. Smart intelligent people can make money and have a good life any where in the world. Probably you would face lot more challenge in life than this green card issue, which I am sure you will give your best to overcome. Don’t make this GC a big deal in your life. :)
I mean the way we talk on these forums are as if all our careers along with our family life will be finished before we reach 30-32 if we don’t get green card. Come on man, so many people faced so many disasters from WW1-2 to flood to hurricanes where they lost everything and still moved on to do great things in life and here we are depressed because of this GC?
Its very interesting to read about people’s different perspective about same thing we are all after.. lets ask ourselves.. honestly why we do want GC and I am sure we all would have multiple reasons for this in our subconscious but would not like to bring it to forefront because it would only undermine our own ability to fight it or make life more stressful.. but end of the day we all want this card.. for me I want it mainly for security and peace of mind…lets look at the different situations.. these might be extreme but we all might have thought about these situations atleast at some point in the recent past… .. and especially the people in the seventh year
1. You are in your seventh year… and you loose you job….what is the first thought that comes to your mind.. I got to pack and leave .. pack your home of seven years and all your possessions you collected, in two suitcases of 50lbs each and leave…forget the Flat Screen TV,, forget all the electronics and the two cars you love ... just list them in craigslist …
2. You have home which you bought with so much pride…what do you do? ..List it.. make a desperate sale in this falling market.. loose a ton of money and leave…and don't even talk about all the silk plants..floor lamps.. the furnishing,, they are for the yard sale on the Saturday..
3. You have child whom you love and have plans for them.. love the school.. are an active member in the PTA … all of sudden what you do.. pull them out of school, move them from the only culture and the country they have known the only President they know is Bush and the only national anthem they have learnt is "The Star-Spangled Banner"…to another place where they don’t even understand the language forget the culture, national anthem etc..
4. Think about your spouse.. they have adopted themselves to this lifestyle.. probably felt lonely when you moved here 7 years but now like it.. its time for them to move back…why because your don’t have a GC
5. Forget the Golf and Tennis you enjoy so much here …it was all a very good dream..
1. You are educated.. have a masters, have a professional degree.. but have been in the same position and department because of your long wait for GC, what happens… the fresh college graduate or the dumb blond who joined two years back and whom you taught how to log into the network is now your peer and you are still on the same desk doing the same job getting the 2% raise and working even more hard..so that you can keep you job..with a new dumb boss.. who thinks you are so dumb that you have been in the same job for so long time..
2. All your batchmates are doing great..some of them are now sweating to be VP’s having risen by changing jobs …. You are still years away from that situation.. what do you do.. stop attending alumni meets and envy the mails in your yahoo groups from people..
3. Seven years in US.. you have made your professional contacts.. and have a social network.. in which you invested your time and effort.. loose your job in the seventh year.. and all these contacts are nothing but an occasional international long distance call in future..
Last but not the least… flight back home to your country is not going to be as smooth as the flight to US was seven years back.. back home look for a job..learn the whole new professional culture …and then set up a new home,,new school for kids….why because we could not get a GC.. which was not in our control.. and because some stupid insane guy sitting in cave 10K miles away decided to terrorize the people in America in 2001.. and make life difficult for all the people..including people in H1...
We might all go back to our home country one day.. but the ride back home would be much more pleasant and happier of a choice we made and not because we did not get a GC…

If you read through the forums, there are few suggestions.
a) Call USCIS and submit a service request to expedite the process.
b) Fax NSC with a request to expedite the process based on humanitarian ground.
c) Wait.
Called USCIS on friday and asked them to expedite since i can lose by job. current ead expires on sept 5 th and filed renewal on june 24th. I see so many cases getting approved with much later dates.

Talk about broken promises. Write to the USCIS ombudsman.
Emails to USCIS ombudsman just generate a standard response, nothing more, asking to submit form 7001. They should be swamped with 7001s by now, so they should create a processing-times for the form7001s.

The form firearm buyers fill out is a federal form that should be standard across all states. Perhaps your recollection is from before Feb 2002 when nonimmigrants' firearm ownership was not restricted.

Regarding FBI Background checks for firearm transactions, they are required by law to give a decision in 7 days, or the transaction is automatically approved. There is a very efficient appeals process for wrongful denials that takes only a couple of weeks. There is also a toll-free hotline to call FBI and talk to an officer.
Wish they had all these features and the 7-day timeframe for immigration background checks....

From the pamphlet it is clear that if you have resided in the State where you are buying the handgun for 90 days and intend to make a home in that State AND are in possession of a valid hunting license or permit lawfully issued in the US the you are eligible to purchse a firearm from an FFL to possess in the US.
I checked the GA Department of Wildlife website and you can get a license online for hunting in a matter of few minutes by paying a small fee unless you intend to hunt Deer for which you need to undergo hunting course.

but saw 10 postings about IV in Indian (desi) sites., like www.kcdesi.com, one from Detroit, one on Sulekha and a few other Chinese sites. I guess these are blog posts. If you stay 6 months everytime and stay shorter durations in home country, then it might create problem at POE.
