Chic for charity: Kate Winslet looks lovely in a white Max Chaoul dress at the Cardboard Citizens Gala Fundraising Dinner in London

When it comes to giving to a good cause, Kate Winslet really goes that extra mile.

The actress attended a fundraising dinner for homeless charity Cardboard Citizens in London over the weekend, and ended up offering the dress she was wearing up for auction.

Kate, 35, wore a lovely frock by French designer Max Chaoul for the gala, held at Christ Church in Spitalfields, before donating it to the charity.

The Revolution Road star looked gorgeous in the knee-length dress with rose appliqué and a black satin sash.

With swept back hair, fresh make-up and simple black peep-toe heels, Kate let the couture take centre stage in order to attract high bids.

Cardboard Citizens is a theatre company comprised of homeless and displaced people.

Kate has been a supporter of the organisation, which presents plays put on by its homeless members, for several years and in 2008 helped raise £100,000 at the annual fundraising dinner.

Inside the event Kate posed with CEO of Cardboard Citizens Adrian Jackson and Deputy CEO Lisa Caughey.

She has wrapped filming on a number of upcoming projects, including TV series Mildred Pierce, a small role in ensemble film Movie 43 and Contagion with Matt Damon, Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow.

That's a wrap: Kate attended the wrap party for her upcoming film God of Carnage with film director Roman Polanski and co-star Christoph Waltz, Jodie Foster and John C. Reilly in Paris this month

She has also starred in Roman Polanski's new drama God of Carnage.

Kate attended the wrap party in Paris earlier this month with the director and co-stars Jodie Foster, Christoph Waltz and John C. Reilly.

In her other role as Lancôme cosmetics ambassador, Kate made headlines last week when a new ad campaign for a lipstick appeared to show that she has done a U-turn on the airbrushing issue.

Kate was outspoken in her opposition to heavy-handed photo-shopping, and even told how she had asked for airbrushed pictures of herself in photoshoots to be reversed.
In 2003 she complained when a GQ magazine cover shot was digitally altered to make her look slimmer.

And only two years ago she proclaimed: ‘I have wrinkles which are very evident.

'I will particularly say when I look at movie posters, “You guys have airbrushed my forehead. Please can you change it back?”’
